Parkinson’s Awareness Month: A Community That Refuses To Be Quiet

As Parkinson’s Awareness Month draws to a close, it’s a moment to reflect, not just on what has been said, but on what has been done.

At Sport Parkinson's, this month has been about more than just awareness. It’s been about action, connection and showing what’s possible when a community comes together with purpose.

Sharing Stories That Matter

Throughout the month, we’ve had the privilege of sharing powerful, personal stories from across our community, stories that challenge perceptions and inspire hope.

Voices like:

  • Ali Turnbull

  • Ellie Finch-Hulme

  • Rose Donaldson

  • Charlie Appleyard

  • Joe Gregory

  • Finlay Clark

  • Sarah McCracken and Christine Stanley

Alongside influential platforms like:

  • Movers and Shakers Podcast featuring Sport Parkinson's

  • Two Parkies in a Podcast interviewing Charlie about the need to move after a Parkinson's diagnosis and life after DBS

Turning Awareness Into Action

Awareness is only meaningful when it leads to action and this month, our community has done exactly that.

We’ve brought people together through sport, movement and shared experience:

  • Our Walking Football Tournament united hundreds in an unforgettable day of competition and connection, the largest Parkinson's Walking Football event in the world.

  • Two Golf Academies creating new opportunities to try something different, build confidence and enjoy being active together.

  • And our co-founders Charlie and Garen have been part of the Cairns Cup team warm up events getting ready for their upcoming Cairns Cup 2026 which is set to take place at the prestigious San Roque Golf Club in Spain from 11th to 18th July 2026.

These events are about far more than sport. They are about reclaiming confidence, finding joy and proving that movement is powerful both physically and mentally.

A Growing Movement Built on Strength and Positivity

This month has shown what makes this community so special. It’s not just the events.  It’s not just the stories.  It’s the people.  Our people are choosing perseverance over limitation, they are choosing strength over setback, they are connecting with others over isolation. Together, we are building something bigger, a community that supports one another, lifts each other up and refuses to let Parkinson’s define the future.

This Is Just the Beginning

Parkinson’s Awareness Month may be coming to an end, but the momentum we’ve built will carry on.  We will keep sharing stories of our fabulous supporters, we will keep creating opportunities and communication will keep growing.

Join us on May 10th for our Try-Athlon 2026 at Twickenham Stoop, the home of the Harlequins.  This is  an opportunity to meet new people, discover new ways to stay active and connect with leading voices in the world of Parkinson’s.

Hear from our co-founder Garen on why this day matters and why bringing your friends, family and wider network could make all the difference.

Whether you’re living with Parkinson’s, supporting someone who is, or simply want to be part of something meaningful , this is your moment to get involved.
