About The Event

The Ray Kennedy Cup is an international running football tournament for people with Parkinson's Disease.  For the past ten years it has been held in the city of Copenhagen, Denmark.  In 2023 the tournament travelled to Liverpool County FA, Sefton for the first time.  The tournament is set to return to Liverpool in 2024, date & venue TBC.

A bit of history about the Ray Kennedy Cup

The tournament is named after the football player Raymond "Ray" Kennedy, who himself got Parkinson's Disease at the end of his career.  The tournament was founded by Eigil Sabroe and physiotherapist Finn Egeberg Nielsen who realized the movements in football could greatly benefit those with Parkinson's Disease.

The Ray Kennedy Cup is the result of a combined effort between Northern Lights PD Support, Liverpool County FA, Fit4Cure from Denmark with support from The Walking Football Association PD.

Sport Parkinson's are proud to be the headline sponsor for the tournament.

"It has been clinically proven that just 2 ½ hours of vigorous exercise per week slows down the progression of PD and can decrease symptoms".

Miriam R Rafferty, of Northwestern University and Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago, Journal of Parkinson’s Disease

Our events foster community spirit, provide support, and offer forums for expert advice. We stage events throughout the year to encourage people of all abilities, experiences, and PD progression to participate, and to find the courage to continue or re-start sports that may have been given up because of a Parkinson’s diagnosis.

All events provide a safe, inclusive, and fun environment.
